Troika Starter

Happened out of nowhere, unexpected. Turned out to be troika starter, kick in the pants I needed.

ONE,

Stepped on the scale, about 10 pounds over where I’ve been, which is 20 pounds already beyond where I want to be.

TWO,

Talked to a buddy who shared his recent focus, 8-10K steps per day, something I generally hit on the regular on work days because there’s so much activity, but when I’m at home, it’s a different story.

THREE,

I checked my steps logged so far and found I was under 2,000 for the day… and I just finished a light dinner of leftover stew, and it was just dark outside, and starting to rain,

All that together was the right motivator. I got my walking shoes out of the garage, slipped them on, then a rain, slicker, and headed out for a quick walk around the neighborhood.

When I got home I felt I’d accomplished something a little special for myself. My legs hurt from the start, but I just kept pushing to walk at the same pace, pretty brisk, rain, falling, pretty quickly. I was very glad I was out there.

When I got home, I was close to 6,000 steps for the day. And so I went up and down the hallway 100 or so times to get to 7,000.

And maybe, just maybe I was starting the new year 2026 with a little different, a little better motivated and proper attitude to get after it outside more often,
