After 24 months,

2 vaccines,

1 booster,

Maybe 100 masks (I’ve worn washable / reusable until several months ago),

I turned up positive for COVID – 19. Tested twice, just to be sure. Well, it was bound to happen.

I’m in good company though; Jungkook of K-Pop Boy Band BTS also announced he just tested positive.

Now I join the 79.9 million number of Americans and 482 million number of humans globally in recorded cases.

Thankfully, it’s a mild/moderate case; I’m not hospitalized. I am tho’ in the midst of 10-day isolation/quarantine.

Condition? Achy, congested, cough and tight chest, foggy brain.

Response? Hydrate, read, sleep, repeat.

Upside? It took two years. And now I’ve got four doses building my immunity to go forward.

Straight Comfort: Ramen

Ramen fits the bill on many an occasion, versatile, yummy for sure.

As a stir-fry, soup, or garnish, it’s an inexpensive, go-to item for everyone’s pantry*.

Also, there’s so much variety in Ramen: Japanese, Chinese, Korean, all good.

Ramen provides a terrific base for left-over vegetables of all kinds. Chop them up fine, toss them in the pot, and let them simmer…before you know it,

Chow Time…!

My mother-in-law gave me a few versions of a Korean brand a while back; I’m still going through them and they are spicy / tasty.

Suffering through a flu just now, and the noodles are saving me.

True Comfort Food!

Wrecked? Easy Does It

Feeling sick, wrecked, smashed, stalled, off track? How to go forward? Next right thing?

Easy does it.

I’ve written about this approach before, and it bares repeating…

Easy does it.

Take your foot off the gas. Slow your pace, throttle back,

Drink more water, clear your schedule, get more rest, take care of you,

In those moments, especially those moments, hours, even days, or longer,

Take care of you.

Gotta get back to work anyway, maybe sooner than you’d like?

All the same,

Easy does it.

Addendum: But if you’re still wrecked, take care of you first.

3/27, Remembering GMD

Might have shared this before, my family is big on initials.

GMD, my maternal grandfather, left us more than 20 years back,

Still think about him, his lessons, his manner, think about that often, maybe most days,

A hard worker, a fair guy, and educator and financially astute fellow,

A cattleman, a cowboy of sorts, more a rancher, a hunter,

I’m not much of those things, my life has taken many turns differently than his,

Hard work, I buy into that,

Early to bed, early to rise, I’m more into that as I get older too,

But I’m still striving to be like him,

A bit more of a perfectionist, maybe a lot,

I keep striving, remembering the spirit of my grandpa,

Happy Birthday, GMD, 3/27.

Train Wreck

Started the day with a scare, Covid, finally? Two tests both said “Negative.”

Pushed through the day, gradually feeling worse, train wreck in slow motion.

I stayed as long as I could, engaged as long as I could, then walked out.

Napped in the car while the kids were at dance, then home and a bowl of hot noodles soup, and March Madness,

Then crashed out, the train wreck completed.

Touch Wood

Very common,

Said frequently,

I do it all the time.

“Why do we say touch wood for luck?

One common explanation traces the phenomenon to ancient pagan cultures such as the Celts, who believed that spirits and gods resided in trees. Knocking on tree trunks may have served to rouse the spirits and call on their protection, but it could have also been a way of showing gratitude for a stroke of good luck.”

Spool Up, Redux

Oft used, words into my head as I come alight,

Day underway, list begins to form,

Written or not,

Thoughts quickly turn to my colleagues, early shift guys, 529am? already on the clock an hour,

Gotta spool up, day, work’s underway,

Plenty to do, say, here we go, hey hey!
