Article Five – Part Two, Why It Matters

The definition of the agreement explains it. It binds the countries together; it provides the structure for organization, negotiation, consensus, agreement, collective security.

These are all things Trump hates; Trump is of: a go-it-alone mentality, selfish to the maximum, erratic, fragile ego, hubris in the extreme, in every way.

Article Five, NATO, Shared Security

The best way to maintain stability and predictability is by establishing and adhering to principles that will promote and support shared security; we’re safe; they’re safe; a much better premise to live under; and that creates peace and opportunity.

In my view that’s the essence and value of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. As an American I want THAT.

I don’t want hubris. I don’t want dominance. I don’t want reckless, haphazard decisions and actions.

NATO gives Americans security because it gives all the member countries security.

In the world, the US is: 4.1% population, 14% of the world economy, and 1 of 9 nuclear powers. US foreign policy should be based on mutual cooperation, balanced support one to the other (an area where NATO can improve the balance, but NOT a reason to exit the treaty).

The United States supports 16% of the common budget for NATO and about 68% of the overall defense budget for NATO*
*the US is also the biggest country in NATO

The 32 member countries of NATO, in alphabetical order, are
