I’m not proud of it at all.
I was in the way home from work the other day, commute time, plenty of traffic. I was in Lane 2.
Cars were stop and go, but my lane seemed to moving ok. Until it wasn’t.
My phone pinged and I was waiting for an update from my daughter, so I checked it, glanced down for a moment. It was the wrong moment.
The line of cars in front of me slowed to a stop. I looked up to see this and was too close to stop safely (if at all) or otherwise bump the car in front of me (it was a white BMW SUV, as I recall).
I pumped the breaks, glanced left to see an opening, and swerved to Lane 1, thankfully avoiding the likely collision.
And how absolutely STUPID of me. And VERY lucky.
I thought in the next few minutes after STUPID faded, Lucky remained, and I considered my reflexes in that moment, glad there are still reasonably responsive.
Don’t want to rely on them in that or any similar, safety situation.
Lucky swerve.
