Got lucky for another day.
Workday.
World Cup doesn’t care.
Sidebar: I’d be curious, how much work productivity goes down during these weeks of fantastic competition. This first round, there’s four games a day, not every day, but certainly during work days. It’s fun to check the scores anyway, to see how teams are doing.
On this particular day, Argentina played Algeria in their first game, and Au Austria played Jordan on the same night. Funny sidebar, I didn’t realize that the Austria Jordan game is actually in my hometown, less than 5 miles away.
In any event, as I clicked through evening chores, early, made dinner, I had the Argentine game on, and it was history in the making.
Lionel Messi scored the first hat trick in World Cup competition in 28 years. And that guy can shoot; man he can find the angles. He is super fun to watch.
And then against my better judgment, I stayed up for a portion of the Austria Jordan game. In fact, I’m writing this as the game is happening; I just have to. 37 minutes into the first half, it’s Austria, One, Jordan, Nel, so far. Who knows how it’ll turn out, I’ll be asleep.
But the one goal for Austria so far, by a player named Romano Schmid, from above the top of the box – a powerful ball into the upper right corner, no way the goalie could get there. Super impressive.
