Just Sitting

Just sitting in the backyard recently, a weekend afternoon, back deck; this space has seen better days, but it’s peaceful all the same.

Sunlight spilled through arbor and leaves of an over-grown Crepe Myrtle. I can hear the air conditioner running in the apartment building behind my house, white noise broken by the wind chimes singing when a modest gust blows through.

I need to clean the glass patio table; the dusty swivel chair I’m sitting in too.

Later the smoke from the burning charcoal BBQ will waft through fading sunlight.

As I look up from writing I notice a small tortoise-shell cat looking back at me through the open gate on the fence I share with my neighbors.

Fun the things you see when you’re just sitting quietly.
