A Father’s Try

Forget about the “old college try”, I’ve got “a father’s try” on my mind. I’ve got three kids, so I try a fair amount.

Sometimes I’m successful, feeling like I’m doing a good job as a parent, sometimes not so much.

Try to get them to eat healthy, clean up after themselves, go to bed on time, drink enough water, take medication when needed, look for ways to help the family collective…and the list goes on.

Try as I may, I’m sometimes not sure about my level of effectiveness, successful influence, or otherwise.

Some people say, like Yoda, “Do or no do, there is no try.” I like that sentiment but it’s not really aligned with my manner, my way. It takes me often times several tries to be successful. I guess that’s most people.

Sometimes several several.

I prefer the low-pressure approach, rather than the do-or-die…it’s just…not my preferred situ. I like effort, rather than absolutes.

And so on this Father’s Day, I remain committed to the effort, and thankful beyond measure I can call myself a dad.
