Mere Christianity

C.S. Lewis wrote a book by this title more than 75 years ago, “Mere Christianity”. It came from a series of talks on the radio Lewis did about well, Christianity.

I was raised in that tradition and found my own strength and hope therein as an adolescent; faith and prayer still see me through my most difficult periods, experiences.

I’ve had more intense times in faith and practice and less so too.

Six years ago my second marriage ended. Our three kids then began splitting time 50/50 between two houses. The kids mom was raised christian but has fallen far afield now, and that’s dampened any hope I had of direct practice of church-going with the kids to help further their own spiritual development.

And so other paths must be the way.

The mysteries of faith I think are both universal and very personal too. The story of Jesus of Nazareth stands up on its own I believe, even as he is the central figure in Christianity.

On this Holy Saturday I consider the story, the teachings anew; I ponder the Paschal Mystery as well; and lean heavy into faith and doubt and hope, all woven together.
