Much Respect: Guy Stats

Obviously by the name of the piece, I’m attributing this trait primarily to “guys”, men, etc. I fully recognize that many, many women, young ladies, etc. have the same ability to evaluate and draw meaning when statistical data is presented.

MUCH RESPECT.

This idea came to mind recently when I had an friendly exchange on X (formerly Twitter) with a guy who I’m connected to on that platform. He made a comment about a player in a game, I commented, and he quickly replied with ready-knowledge I don’t hold regarding the player.

I attribute that knowledge to “Guy Stats”; in other words, this X buddy follows the sports stats to the point he’s well aware of what’s going on in the league with the teams, the players, etc.

Takes me back to being a kid, and need to also pay homage to my dad.

He used to scan through the two “Scoreboard” pages in the local newspaper everyone morning. As I grew up, I did the same…but never really knew how he was evaluating and retaining the information he was getting those two pages and columns of names and numbers.

And so that’s it…just an observation that some folks are better with statistics and numbers and interpretation and all therein…

I’ve strived to get better over the past several decades, but I don’t got it naturally like some. Like my man on X; like my old man why back when.

Guy Stats. Statistics. Numbers. GOOD.
