Bloganuary Prompt: “Describe an item you were incredibly attached to as a youth. What became of it?”
I was like the Peanuts character, Linus: I had a favorite security blanket with me for the first ten or so years of my life.
Actually, I had two. When I was a baby / toddler, I had a yellow “security” blanket; it was about 3 feet by 4 feet in size; it had a silky nylon border fringe all the way around it.
I LOVED to gently rub the fringe through my hand. I rubbed that blanket until the fringe came apart. Then I got a blue blanket of the same size and materials to replace it.
I slept with those blankets every night until I was about 10 years old, and into the Sixth Grade.
Then it was decision time.
I went to Sixth Grade Science Camp. Was I going to take the blanket or not?
I opted to stuff my blanket down to the foot my sleeping bag for the week.
When I got back home from camp at week’s end, it was soon there after that my blanket was retired.
I’d like to think it’s still in a box, in the attic…but I suspect instead it’s gone back to Mother Earth, from whence it came.
These days, I have crooked wooden spoon that’s my favorite. but I don’t sleep with it.
😁
