Saint Patrick, Scotch, and Jazz

It’s St. Patrick’s Day, and I’m sitting, listening, blending, traditions, and celebration,

Become my practice to listen to jazz on Sundays, and in honor and homage to my dad, who died six years back,

On this particular Sunday as I reflect, it’s also St. Patrick’s Day, but I’m not drinking Irish whiskey this year,

No instead, a couple dollops of scotch whiskey, with my old man used to drink on occasion,

I’m not listening to Irish music, it instead, jazz, as I mentioned, my more recent practice,

Thinking about my dad, how he seem to struggle in his final years, letting the music soak in, the scotch deep into my being just a bit, and wanting to be less affected by the struggles my dad had…

Yeah, the Irish in my family is on my mom’s side, not my dad’s… But my prayers go up the same, with a wink and a twinkle and a little smirk of love and remembrance and spirit, on this day, for my dad…

Remember the love, take a few minutes, reflection, and remember them, your family, your people, it’s the best thing you can do…

Let the love shine on…Happy Saint Patrick’s Day.
