Tasty Whisper

Funny situ, the way certain things make us feel, draw us to them…

Could be a person, a look, a sense of longing, connection,

Could be a comfortable pair of shoes, or shorts, or a favorite sweatshirt,

Or a particularly cozy blanket, or spot on a comfy couch or oversized chair perfect for cuddling up.

It could also be a fresh, hot cup of coffee,

A ice-cold glass of water when you’re REALLY thristy,

Or it could be as it was for me recently,

Walking by the glass doors of the refrigerator in the work cafeteria one morning,

The shelves freshly stocked by the company’s food vendor,

And I spy a egg & sausage breakfast sandwich,

Suddenly, quietly I hear the whisper,

“Eat me…”,

And in that moment, in my particular frame of mind and hunger level,

That’s all I need.

45 seconds in the microwave, and then I quarter the sandwich, still steaming, and fold it into a paper plate,

Getting back to my desk, as I continue reading through emails, in six to eight bites in quick succession,

I gobble down the goodness,

All spurred by a tasty whisper,

GOOD.
