Channeling Sharansky

Natán Sharansky is an Israeli politician, activist, and author. He is also an bona fide inspiration.

Born into a Jewish family in the then Soviet Ukraine, in the city of Donetsk, he was a child chess prodigy, studied at a math & physics secondary school, and graduated from the Moscow Institute of Physics & Technology; he became a refusenik after being denied permission to emigrate from the then Soviet Union to Israel.

Detained and imprisoned by the Soviet government as a political prisoner for nine years, he was released and emigrated to Israel.

He then continued his activism and leadership in political & non-profit organizations up until present.

Though I don’t agree with all of his political positions and perspectives, I am inspired by his commitment and focus and perseverance to live according to his beliefs and values.

I’ll never be a math guy or chess prodigy, but I do strive to live as he does, focusing the mind, and willing to stand up for what’s right and just.

FEAR NO EVIL.
