Movie Feelings

Sometimes movies, the themes, the words the actions speak, sometimes they give us the parallels that help us explain things, to ourselves, if no one else.

Recalling an early scene in the movie Top Gun. Navy fighter pilots on patrol over the Indian Ocean, engaged suddenly by Soviet MiGs, one American pilot somehow cracks after the encounter; Cougar almost doesn’t make it back to the aircraft carrier, can’t seem to function, until Mavrick helps him land the plane.

During the landing effort, one of the other aviators involved surmises, “…that MiG really screwed [Cougar] up…”; then after the stark summary by the squadron commander, “…Cougar lost it, turned in his wings…”,

And then I think as I struggle, “…that MiG screwed me up, …but I’m not turning in my wings…and I’m landing the plane.

KEEP GOING. Land the plane.
