She just passed on, end of last year, had not heard of her prior that I could recall, my loss until now,

Poet and activist from the 1960’s in America, forefront voice for African-Americans and the Civil Rights Movement,

Leader with words and actions to give others voice too, expert with verse and children’s books too,

Honored for vision, commitment and clarity over decades, speaking up and out for those with less opportunity, lifting up the Black Arts Movement, bridging decades, still power, forever a voice to listen to,
