Considering time-off work, extended leisure, vacation, and duration therein; here in the states we’re not much for time away from the job, the career, the achieving, that Protestant work ethic still quite active in American Society. I for one say it gets tiring. And so getting time away from it all is all the more valuable, precious indeed! But how long?
Consider one washer load, clothes or dishes, a full load, every slot taken, the maximum recommended volume of clothing pieces … that seems a pretty good measure of time elapsed at a place, provided you don’t wear the same clothes every day, or eat from the same dish at every meal.
Recently on a road-trip, time away with my kids, this measure of vacation time came to mind, and after considering I knew I had to bring it here to this forum, to articulate, express, flesh-out the idea, thus we are here,
To take the topic forward, I’ll declare here and now that a two-load holiday would be all the better! Indeed, I can recall a few times in my life when I’ve take two weeks off work at the same time, the gears of my work brain fully idle, full reset of the synapses that normally whirl seemingly non-stop. More time off is glorious to be sure! At least for me.
Considering the long game, I will remain content, for a life shift draws ever closer, when the 40-hour plus work-week comes to eventual conclusion, and my pursuits are guided by muse alone,
So for now, one washer load, I’ll take that time when I can get it with gratitude,
