Fading Light

What to do in the fading light but be grateful for what you can still see? Be grateful for what you can still remember,

My mom is under hospice case, her health decidedly on the wane since a fall on Easter Monday, ironic given the holiday, marking, celebrating a new beginning in a faith journey, new chapter of relative decline, now 100 days passed, her body and mind slowing, soon to roll to stop,

Remembering my mom’s perseverance and positive attitude, her approach to friends and family and trying new things, her stubborn, sometimes quiet rage when she didn’t agree, her enthusiasm for connections and belonging,

As the light dims I recall belonging, and unending support and belief and an engaged life, and I’m grateful even in the fading light, all the more in the fading light.
