Times Like These

It’s times like these I’m fairly certain that writing is one of the best coping mechanisms I have. Writing for me is often therapeutic, insightful, and just plan fun. It’s a pleasure. And boy do I need it, the writing.

It’s been a rough week.

My mom passed away at the start of the week after a long life (see blog post : https://halffullallgood.com/2025/08/21/rip-mom/ ) . I’ve felt guilty about not going to work, not grinding it out.

Two days later my brother’s father-in-law passed away; he’d been in declining health for some time, but the timing was a surprise; he wasn’t on hospice care (like my mom).

My brother’s family is local, as are his in-laws, and we’ve had intermingled lives of varying degrees these past 25 years. The one, two deaths of two family elders is heavy, there’s no way around that.

Coping with all this, writing helped me in the lead-up to my mom’s passing, and is helping me process now, and cope with my family (surviving members), and my own kids too.

It’s times like these, writing helps me process everything and put it all in context, to make more sense of it all.

Writing helps me in times like these.
