Here’s a little work glimpse, a little Shop Talk,
I work in Supply Chain, broad term, my little corner is usually around the shipping and logistics piece, usually with equipment, transportation, large, larger, physical pieces that need to be moved from A to B.
But I work in the same group with those material handlers who are expert at handling piece-parts, kits, smaller shipments, what we call “consumables “, these orders can get pretty big when you pack up for shipment sometimes,
And all those consumables shipments are managed through orders, what SAP calls “deliveries”, and they come down as pick lists to the shipping department, and those materials, products are pulled, packed and shipped…
One of our prior shipping supervisors would frequently refer to the size of the order, and the work involved as a
“2-Pager or 4-Pager… etc”,
as in how many pages the pick list was of materials that had to be picked, packed and shipped,
Recently, we went in on a Saturday, a few of us, to get a few bigger orders together to ship out for revenue recognition before quarter-end, and though a modest effort on my part, I picked a two pager, then a four pager…
Tho’ they are simple steps, all the same expert attention to detail is critical.
Happy to participate, and check everything off the way it’s supposed to be done. Good practice, good to get outside the comfort zone, satisfying to be part of an extra effort to contribute to the needs of the many.
