Ethereal Efficiencies

Bloganuary Prompt: “In what ways do you communicate online?”

More and more regularly do we communicate on-line, the ways and purposes have only increased,

Not only at work, through hundreds of email every day, Microsoft Teams for instant messaging, and the information systems we use built by Oracle, SAP, Siemens…

Not only with our friends and family across the state, the country, the globe, through email too, and also SnapChat, social media platforms galore, and of course, text messaging,

But also increasingly so with our children as the grow up with understanding and access to mobile devices, allowing them to ask about lunch or dinner via text message, from two rooms away,

So many efficiencies realized but,

Also, so ridiculous this digital communication seems, so much so that I sometimes yell down the hall to my kids, “…I’m doing the dishes, so if you want to talk to me come to the kitchen…”, or Teams message my colleague, hold on, I’ll just come to your cubicle to chat….

Face to face, or at least voice to voice, has got to be the human preference, doesn’t it? Least we lose our first-person, real-person connections, least we forget how to be together,

Let’s not forget how to be together, let’s not lose that to the ether ~
