Slow-go Saturday, this to that.
Easy-go Saturday, easy easy easy, rat-ta-tat-tat,
A couple fam gatherings, laid back, good chats, good peeps, good snacks, kids had a good day, we had a good day,
GRATEFUL.

Doesn’t take much to find a little respite. Old BBQ fired up, coals burning hot, does the trick.
Chicken Thighs and Broccoli on the grill tonight.
Day on the wane, weekend eve, late start to dinner, no problem at all. Evening breeze, kids in the yard, sun sinking low, all good.
Thankful for the weekend. Thankful for the food to cook. Thankful for the backyard. Thankful for the ancient BBQ.
ALL GOOD.
It’s a simple idea. People helping people. It’s a simple act. Anyone can do it.
It’s an easy choice. If someone needs help and you can help them, do so.
If each of us took this approach, things would be different in our neighborhoods, in our communities, states, countries, different for the better, in our workd
People helping people. An example? A handful of people with an understanding of where there is excess food, and how the redistribute it, to people in need, people who would otherwise be hungry…those handful of people provided for near 200 families today.
It was inspiring; it was humbling to be a part of that effort today. It was simple. People helping people.
Let’s all do a little more of that. Amen. AMEN.
In the dirt, believe; protect what’s in the dirt, the dirt itself, even better.
Protect the green, food unto all, for all, let it be, let it be, from Mother Earth, let it be.
A gentle wander to begin the day, begin this new year 2021. Thus the day, the year began.
“Kids, let’s watch the New Year’s Day Parade…!”
“Ah Dad, we want to watch kids’ shows…”, and so it’s Liv and Maddie to start the day…
And then I’m thinking about making bacon…I’m in the kitchen…
I turn to Anthony Bourdain’s cookbook, “Appetites”, to check the oven temp for cooking bacon,
then read about Escoffier in Bourdain’s book (who knew!?)…didn’t know Escoffier’s name, or his primary role in French and high-end cuisine overall…
And then there’s some turmoil in the back of the house…my youngest, a little grumpy to start the day…
Then she comes out to the living room, Liv & Maddie help her mood shift up…
And the bacon? Well, it turned out pretty perfect.
Good start to the day, and heck, good start to 2021. I’ll take it. With GRATITUDE.

Our buddy Mark said it for all of us:
“To my fav peeps…
Thank you for your friendship…
Thank you Santa Clara [University]…”
That last reference, to the college where we all met and somehow were blessed with a life-time bond.
I sent out a text asking about Christmas menus, to these men I’ve been blessed to call friends for decades… what I got back from various locations in the west follows…love the yummy…and I’m sure it was…!
The dinner menus broken down thus.
From Long Beach, CA
Tri Tip marinated in teriyaki, mashed potatoes,
broccoli,
salad and
really tasty wine with homade Christmas cookies by the girls.
From Neskowin, OR
Salmon with siracha sauce….
wild rice and broccoli…
and home made cheesecake…
From Masula, MT
Beef tenderloin,
mac n cheese.
Clara mashed potatoes, green beans,
1999 hess reserve,

And from my house in San Jose, CA

Honeybaked Ham
Potato mash,
Baked beans,
Cheesy broccoli casserole,

Layered jello and homemade cookies
DELICIOSO…!
And the friendships…timeless.
Good tune, good lyric, good message…
Do the math, teach your kids, do the same.
“The 3 R’s”
Three it’s a magic number
Yes it is, it’s a magic number
Because two times three is six
And three times six is eighteen
And the eighteenth letter in the alphabet is R
We’ve got three R’s we’re going to talk about today
We’ve got to learn to
Reduce, Reuse, Recycle
Reduce, Reuse, Recycle
Reduce, Reuse, Recycle
Reduce, Reuse, Recycle
If you’re going to the market to buy some juice
You’ve got to bring your own bags and you learn to reduce your waste
And if your brother or your sister’s got some cool clothes
You could try them on before you buy some more of those
Reuse, we’ve got to learn to reuse
And if the first two R’s don’t work out
And if you’ve got to make some trash
Don’t throw it out
Recycle, we’ve got to learn to recycle,
We’ve got to learn to
Reduce, Reuse, Recycle
Reduce, Reuse, Recycle
Reduce, Reuse, Recycle
Reduce, Reuse, Recycle
Because three it’s a magic number
Yes it is, it’s a magic number
3, 3, 3
3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18, 21, 24, 27, 30, 33, 36
33, 30, 27, 24, 21, 18, 15, 12, 9, 6, and
3, it’s a magic number

Sometimes a few images say a lot. Here’s a recap of recent times in my neck of the woods.
Silly Dad, you thought burnt broccoli was a good idea as the veggie for dinner!
But we had it in the fridge, it expires (whatever that means) in a few days, and SOMETIMES it’s a hit. And I suppose it was, to a point.
3/5 of the house ate it. And it was quick. Broiler on low, spread it out over the pan, drizzled in EVOO, liberal rusty of sea salt, and away we go.
Tasty, healthy for you, leftovers for tomorrow too.
GOOD.
Silly dad.
